Village Radio is a non-commercial community radio station that has been broadcasting from the Historic Village in Tauranga since 1984. We are a not-for-profit incorporated society (Tauranga Village Radio Museum Incorporated), and a registered charity fully funded by donations and sponsored time.
Our purpose is to achieve two key outcomes:
Celebrate our past
- We play nostalgic music from the 1920’s to the early 2000’s to our Bay of Plenty community and globally through our online streaming service.
- Visitors can witness announcers broadcast using vinyl records dating back to the 1920’s, and historic equipment from 1930 – 40.
- We maintain a museum relating to radio and broadcasting.
Connect with our Bay of Plenty community
- Our team of approximately 30 volunteers understand the important role of radio to connect with people.
- Our carefully curated song lists invoke feelings of nostalgia. We encourage our listeners to make song requests and join our ‘Friends of Village Radio’ for opportunities to connect with volunteers in person.
Help Village Radio!
As a not-for-profit incorporated society and registered charity, Village Radio is required to find our own sources of funding. We rely on donations from listeners and supporters, grants from funding agencies, and sponsorship from local businesses to fund our operational costs. We also need to fund unexpected additional costs associated with our temporary relocation to make way for the earthquake strengthening of our current premises (for details click here).
