Relocation Project
A significant change for Village Radio is our temporary relocation from our current studios. We need to accommodate the earthquake strengthening of our current premises on the first floor of the Town Board and Library building in the Historic Village (17th Ave West, Tauranga). We have already secured the use of another building within the Historic Village where we will set up a temporary studio to broadcast from during this period. We expect to be able to set up a small radio museum in this space.
Village Radio is working closely with our building owner (Tauranga City Council) who is facilitating the earthquake strengthening work. The works won't commence until July 2025 at the earliest, and we hope to have clearer timeframes in Jan-Feb 2025. We will broadcast from the temporary studio for several months. After that we will relocate back to our current premises where we have broadcast from since 1984.
Our temporary relocation is being coordinated by a volunteer who is an experienced project manager with extensive experience in large scale office relocations. We have a relocation strategy in place with a focus on the health and safety of our volunteers and continuous radio transmission.
Village Radio is a non-commercial community radio station that manages its own funding through grants and sponsorship. This unexpected relocation creates additional costs and coordination effort. This includes removalist services, external storage, aerial connections, crane services, and establishing a temporary studio.
We are investigating different grants that could help us, and when moving dates are confirmed we will be asking for further donations from our listeners, the local community and local businesses. Our Village Radio website<https://www.villageradio.co.nz/online/donation_form.csn> outlines how you can make a donation. Please email us at info@villageradio.co.nz<mailto:info@villageradio.co.nz> to discuss relocation assistance or sponsorship opportunities. We greatly appreciate any offers of support.
We look forward to bringing pure nostalgia to our listening audience through this temporary relocation period, just as we have over the last 40 years!
