Volunteer Profile

Neil Alexander

Announcer/Panel Op

My name is Neil Alexander, I grew up in the Hutt Valley and spent my informative years enjoying the music of the clubs and pubs Wellington had to offer, visiting all genres of music available, leaked into my veins. I saw many of the touring groups who came to New Zealand; Beatles,Rolling Stones, Honeycombs, Roy Orbison, The Searchers, Rod Stewart etc, etc.
Susan, my wife, and I moved to Auckland in the mid-eighties building a home in Hobsonville and in 1999 moved to Melbourne taking up a business opportunity and had a great 18 years in a fabulous city. The Melbourne Jazz scene is superb, and we also saw many visiting entertainers, standouts include Manhattan Transfer, Diana Krall and musical shows such as The Jersey Boys, Kinky Boots etc.
On our many visits to the USA visiting family and grandchildren, we did grab every opportunity to see the best music on offer in Chicago, Memphis and Nashville and Kentucky, so plenty of R&B, Blues & Country.
Yes, music is certainly a huge part of both our lives although I can’t sing a tune or play an instrument but Village Radio, the home of musical nostalgia is my musical home.
